چکیده

Sheet and film processes include polymer film extrusion, coating processes of many types, paper manufacturing, sheet metal rolling, and plate glass manufacture. Identification, estimation, monitoring, and control of sheet and film processes are of substantial industrial interest since effective control means reduced usage of raw materials, increased production rates, improved product quality, elimination of product rejects, and reduced energy consumption. This paper reviews recent developments in sheet and film process control with particular attention to the effectiveness of existing techniques at addressing the critical aspects of sheet and film processes. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Ennineerinn Control - Oriented Modeling of Sheet and Film Processes

Sheet and film processes pose a challenging identification and control problem due to high complexity, poor conditioning, and limited input output data. The interaction between model accuracy and closed-loop performance is explored for sheet and film processes using a model decomposition in terms of two static orthogonal matrices in series with a diagonal transfer--function matrix. It is shown ...

PROCESS DESIGN AND CONTROL Input Design for Large-Scale Sheet and Film Processes

Manipulated variable moves are computed to maximize the information contained in experimental data collected from sheet and film processes. The experimental design procedure minimizes the confidence ellipsoid of the critical model parameters over the manipulated variables subject to their physical constraints. For a simulated blown film process, the model is 1 order of magnitude more accurate t...

Two New Non-AFR Criteria for Depicting Strength Differential Effect (SDE) in Anisotropic Sheet Metals

The issue of pressure sensitivity of anisotropic sheet metals is investigated with introducing two new non-AFR criteria which are called here linear and non-Linear pressure sensitive criteria. The yield and plastic potential functions of these criteria are calibrated with directional tensile/compressive yield stresses and directional tensile Lankford coefficients, respectively. To determine unk...

Robust cross-directional control of large scale sheet and ®lm processes

Sheet and ®lm processes, which include papermaking, polymer ®lm extrusion, and adhesive coating, are of substantial industrial importance. The processes are poorly conditioned and truly large scale, with up to hundreds of manipulated variables and thousands of sensor locations. The uncertainties in sheet and ®lm process models require that they be explicitly taken into account during the contro...

Fast model predictive control of sheet and film processes

Sheet and film processes are prevalent in the chemical and pulp and paper industries, and include paper coating, polymer film extrusion, and papermaking. A model predictive control algorithm is developed which is based on an off-line singular value decomposition of the plant. The input constraints are approximated by an ellipsoid whose size is optimized on-line to reduce conservatism. The contr...
